What is DFA?

  • Issues Philippine passports to Filipino citizens and provides consular services for Filipinos abroad.
  • Issues the Apostille for documents bound for Apostille Convention countries, and the older authentication ("Red Ribbon") for the few destinations that still require it.
  • No walk-ins — passport applications require an online appointment at passport.gov.ph.

Important Reminders

  • No walk-ins: An online appointment at passport.gov.ph is required for all passport applications
  • Valid for 10 years: Philippine passports are valid for 10 years (5 years for minors)
  • Processing time (passport.gov.ph): Regular ~10 working days (Manila) / ~12 outside Manila; Rush ~5 working days (Manila) / ~7 outside Manila.
  • Bring original documents: All requirements must be original and unlaminated
  • When to renew: Best to renew within 6 months to 1 year before expiry — many destinations require at least 6 months of remaining validity to admit you
  • Appointment is FREE: Book only at passport.gov.ph. The passport processing fee (₱950/₱1,200) is paid online at booking; Authorized Payment Centers add a ~₱50 convenience fee. Anyone asking you to pay a separate "appointment fee" is a fixer.
  • Apostille is now online (e-Apostille): Paper Apostille suspended since 9 March 2026. Apply via the DFA e-Apostille portal — PHP 200 per document.
